Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

 In News

As we wind down to the end of the year, we’d like to say a big thank you for  your support this year. With your help, the Kenya Care families have got hope for a better future.

We were able to guide four groups with a total of 85 families this year. Moreover, we have just started a new group: Mwangaza (which means Light). This group presently has 26 members and is now taking the first series of basic lessons.

Every week the mothers (and some fathers) come together, to motivate and stimulate each other. During these weekly meetings there is also additional guidance and coaching from our staff. All kinds of topics are discussed: from health, nutrition, raising children, reducing stigma and saving, to all sorts of issues relating to running your own business.

We also continued the reading and writing lessons to help them become more resilient.

New this year were the lessons about human rights, set up by the volunteer Tessel Koopal. She has developed a nice curriculum that deals with legal rights regarding marriage, inheritance and children. A very valuable addition to our program.

Furthermore, we have organized two leaderships workshops, in which not only  the members of the current  self-help groups participated, but also the women of the groups  who have previously completed our program.

With your help we could also help more than 80 children with school fees, uniforms, shoes and school supplies. This greatly helps the mothers and ensures that the children get at least primary school education.

For the start-up or expansion of their businesses , we granted a total of 76 micro loans this year with an average of 120 euros per loan.

Only one person has not repaid her loan and this amount (around 35 euros) has been paid by the group. This means that the reimbursement to Kenya Care was this year again 100%. A fantastic positive result. And it is even better to see that the women with the small loans are able to make major steps forward. Several women have meanwhile built their own small house or are able to let their children go to secondary school. And we see that the women increasingly see the necessity of making plans and save.

We are very happy with all the positive developments made possible with your help, small or large, for which we are very grateful.

We appreciate it very much and we hope you will continue to support us in the new year.

On behalf of all the mothers, fathers, children, staff and board of Kenya Care, we thank you very much and wish you all a peaceful and lovingly Christmas and a very happy and prosperous 2020.

All the groups celebrated Christmas together, with songs, dance, self-cooked food & pictures?

Our staff members – Festus, Caroline & Alice – wish you Happy Holidays
